Public Accreditation Notice
Overview
Warren National University is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where it is legally registered to enroll students and confer degrees by the
State of Wyoming Department of Education
The State of Wyoming enacted two years ago, a State Statute that authorizes registration for private, for-profit universities that are "actively seeking" or "have been granted" accreditation by one of the many agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education.
For two years, Warren National University has been seeking regional accreditation from the
Higher Learning Commission.
The University has achieved Eligibility Status and is now seeking Candidacy Status.
Both statuses are steps toward consideration of Initial Accreditation Status, which is the
next stage
in being granted accreditation.
Accreditation Status
Warren National University is scheduled on October 13-15, 2008 to undergo a comprehensive evaluation for Candidacy Status by an evaluation Team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
It is seeking to move from Eligibility Status (achieved in December 2007) to Candidacy Status toward regional accreditation.
Warren National University is exclusively dedicated to
the Mission
of meeting the personal and professional needs of its non-traditional, adult learners by offering quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs entirely online.
The Higher Learning Commission
is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis.
Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole.
The process to seek accreditation is expected to take several years and there is no guarantee that accreditation will be granted.
Overall, The Higher Learning Commission accredits approximately 1100 institutions of higher education in a 19-state region.
It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Public Notice for Comment
For the past year, Warren National University has engaged the entire institution in a "self-study" process that examines its readiness for accreditation against the five Higher Learning Commission criteria and accreditation requirements.
The process has been recorded in a formal WNU Self-Study document.
In October, the Team will visit the institution to gather evidence that the self-study document is thorough and accurate.
Following the visit, the Team will recommend to the Higher Learning Commission whether or not the institution meets the requirements for Candidacy of Status for accreditation; following a review process, the Commission itself will take the final action.
This process of Commission decision making is expected to be complete by February 2009.
For the purpose of the Candidacy visit, the public was invited to submit comments either electronically or by mailing responses regarding the college.
This period of public comment was closed on September 25, 2008 to allow time for the comments to be processed prior to the site visit.
